Well you can’t find work --now you’ve found your calling, And the one you think you love thinks that you’re appalling. So many dreams I just can’t seem to catch, I guess I’m going through another “rough patch”. You are bound by your whims, I am bound by whimsy, If this is all in the genes, then this joke’s growing flimsy, Can we ever really change what’s already been hatched? Maybe the whole lot is one long rough patch... When you start to wonder what sort of life you’ve been leading, Then you know that it’s the wrong wolf you’ve been feeding... I suspect I’m not alone in being like that: I guess we’re going through another rough patch... ...//

CH: And there’s 22 years we’ll never erase, 22 lines cut across my face, 22 ways, to twist the truth… Well there’s one thing I know for sure is true… (that…) Only a fool, would ever trust in you… (…Yeah) only a fool, would put their trust in you… V.1: Walking home with a sinking heart, should’ve known this was wrong from the start, But I held on hope – against my Will, As I braced myself, in that Winter chill… (CH.) ………………………………………………………………………………… V.2: Our nights were bright, but days were so dark, Just the sound of my footsteps, and an old dog’s bark; Now it’s 22 stones down a darkened lane, and 22 words firing through my brain; --

She was near her 14th year when I got word of her demise, Goodbye to that sweet affection and those kind devoting eyes, We would take long winding walks she was the friendliest girl around, Her gentle grace would set my mind at ease and her silence was profound; I had cared for her and watched her grow... When you fall into, a deep dark fog, I guess that it must be, that old black dog, It still follows me too you know, And that old black dog just won’t let go... It was a clear and sunny April day when I got that dreaded call, My folks had left the surgery it seems that they had tried their all, I didn’t live that far away but life was full and fancy free, I suppose I thought she’d be okay – it’s strange what we fail to foresee; She would know me better than I could know... When you fall into, a deep dark fog, I guess that it must be, that old black dog, It still follows me to and fro, And that old black dog just won’t let go. It still follows me too you know...

about

Pat Bruce Melbourne, Australia

"2-Hat" Pat Bruce is one of Footscray's lesser-known Alternative/Roots troubadours.
His heartfelt song-craft conveys a raw mix of Celtic-Folk, tinged with muddy country-roots, all drenched with a grungy punk spirit.

As an intermittent stalwart of the inner-Melbourne music scene over the past decade, some say he is finally maturing like a good wine.

Decide for yourself.
