V.1: They took me from my home-glen, to number their frontline, They took me from those Waters, and the crystal eyes that shine… But thruugh their misdemeanour, they accused me of a crime: and on some strange adventure—on the seas I did serve my time; V.2: And I always did then wonder: if a true love you did find? And I always did remember: your eyes, they did haunt my mind… While I was over yonder, my heart was locked in a bind, Well I’m due home, this September—but suspect it won’t be kind… CHORUS #1: So I aint comin back for water, I aint comin back for wine, --I aint comin back to take you back. . . . For you were always mine. V.3: Well the damn swallowed up the valley, It numbed their Hearts & Minds, And thru those pristine Waters, big-business wheels now grind; So who wracked you there with pain Love?–who left you out on the vine? While I turned my eyes to the oceans, and the peaceful stars that shine… CHORUS #2: Now I aint comin back for water, I aint comin back for wine, --I aint comin back to take you back. . . . For you, for you were always mine. V.4: Now rest your weary head dear—for whomever you may pine, Know this: I’ll never leave you, just look to the stars for a sign…. Final CHORUS: Cos’ I aint comin back for water, I aint comin back for wine, --I aint comin back to take you back,. . . . For you were always mine.. So come with me my darlin’ Come with me so fine, Oh come with me, oh come with me Across the Seas of Time….// --

V.1: In Galway’s Bay city I did dance, I did drink; I did prance from Bar to Bar / But I never saw someone so pretty n’true/ as the one I hold so far, away,… as the one, I have loved, so far./ V.2: Well you might say I’m silly But I chance just to think; This Romance is the greater by far / And the one’s I have wanted Will just make me blue/ There’s only one I need so far, I say,… --she’s the one, I behold, as a star./ CHORUS: So if you’re goin’ to Gal-way City… steer clear of the women-kind… Those women-folk in Galway City…. Might just blow your mind / V.3: {Instrumental: “la la, la, la la …….”} V.4: Sure it may be a pity That WE dance, and WE drink; While ‘Romance’ eludes this here Bar but I know I aint lookin’ For anything new/ While there’s one who’s on my mind all day,… --and that’s all, I may hold, so far……/ --

V.1: He said it’s hard to trust, if things seem so good, when you’re used to so much struggle and strife / But another time and another place, If you were alone – I could take you for a wife… BRIDGE #1: Well don’t matter how we live our lives, Why should we even care…? And matters not what name it has —just as long as you're still there….. V.2: She said my hours were cut, and now my pension too, cant afford the rent and my cupboards are all bare / And the other day this letter arrived, says that I’ve lost sight, of the rules about what’s “fair”… BRIDGE #2: Well don’t matter how we live our lives, How could they even care…? / CHORUS : Sometimes it touches me, sometimes it touches you…. Too many are suffering, while you tell them it’s not true.... When people sink too deep, we gotta lift them up for air…. when life catches up with you, —you’ll know it’s really there….. V.3: Now Just doing your best, with the hand you’re dealt, Could be true "Success" when kindness is quite rare, Sure there are decent jobs but go and join the line, how come the Mining Chiefs, still dictate what’s fair?! BRIDGE #3: Well don’t matter how we live our lives, Why would they even care…?! / CHORUS : ……………………………………. When life catches up with you, —you’ll know it’s really there….. + And matters not what name it has —just as long as you're still there. // --

On The Clock 03:45
V.1: I'm goin home, to soak in the bath, while I'm still On The Clock; They can pay me, the rest of the day, to sit here and take stock... In Casual work, this is my perk -- this luxury’s all i've got; From the top of the tree, they won't see me, nor care for what I Have Not... (BRIDGE) I'm not trying, to even get ahead, I wonder why, I should even get out of bed.... V.2: You have to ask, at the end of the week, what's earnt and what is lost?... When all you find is a tired mind, and yet another hidden cost; (BRIDGE) No I'm not trying, to even get ahead, I wonder why, I should even get out of bed.... these days… (CHORUS) The fruits of my labour, have been torn.... the fruits of my labour, are now forgone...[x2] V.3: Well what use are Laws, when the bottom-line calls, and the dole queue isn’t much worse; But no-one ignores, when the hammer it falls, and the Bosses must live with this curse… Now I'm not trying, to even get ahead, I wonder why, I should even get out of bed.... these days…... (CHORUS)…………. [x2] I'm goin home, and don't even ask, while I'm still On The Clock; I'm goin home, and don't even ask, why I'm still On The Clock… -- written by P. Bruce, 2011

V.1: A Brunswick rent has really gone too steep And now Fawkner it’s not that far off… But everyone needs their own space to Be: Just ask your neighbourhood Toff. As for ‘a home of our own’: we threw in the towel, -- a mortgage long beyond reach; And if Fortune so happens to smile and not scowl, it sure wont be a place we can leech, each to each… Our Generation’s still paying the price For another’s indulgence n’ greed, Some learn the hard way while some think twice: it costs enough to just get what you Need…. BRIDGE: Well a guy I know scored a house up near the ol’ Gaol, And prison walls are just what you’ll see when stock Markets fail… V.2: When we settled this Land & they classed us ‘Free’, The last of the rivers were crossed, But our Forefathers, would never have foreseen, How easy their gains could be lost… We’re an affluent Nation –yes, daily we’re told, Oh how “prosperous” have we all grown, But the rich become rich by the property they’ve sold, --what a ludicrous scheme we have sown!.. \(REPEAT BRIDGE:)…… + CHORUS: … Oh’ a Pentridge sunset may be the place to be, To keep you out of strife; Yeah a Pentridge sunset may set you free Or curse you thru for life; V.3: When he first saw that face on that tram #19, the future looked surely so bright, but now all bills are paid there’s not a cent to be seen, Oh no wonder it ends in a fight… every night……. --And what time left is there to walk in the light? Yeah what time is there left to just walk in the light?..... (CHORUS)............................................................................// --

about

Pat Bruce Melbourne, Australia

"2-Hat" Pat Bruce is one of Footscray's lesser-known Alternative/Roots troubadours.
His heartfelt song-craft conveys a raw mix of Celtic-Folk, tinged with muddy country-roots, all drenched with a grungy punk spirit.

As an intermittent stalwart of the inner-Melbourne music scene over the past decade, some say he is finally maturing like a good wine.

Decide for yourself.
